| 8 February 2007, Belleville, Ontario—An internationally-acclaimed expert in student writing, Ruth Culham, is coming to the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board on February 12 and 13. She will host workshops for primary and junior teachers.
Culham’s “6+1 Trait model” has had a tremendous impact on the way the teachers in HPEDSB provide writing instruction to their students. HPEDSB is very fortunate to have Culham, an internationally acclaimed expert in student writing, come to Belleville to provide professional development for teachers. This professional opportunity will expose teachers to effective instructional strategies to enrich their classroom writing programs and enhance student learning.
The workshop for primary teachers (February 12) will emphasize writing strategies using Culham’s book Traits of Writing for Primary Grade Teachers. The workshop for junior teachers (February 13) will also emphasize writing using Culham’s book An Introduction and Overview of Traits of Writing for Assessment and Instruction for the Junior Teacher.
Ruth Culham, President of The Culham Writing Company, is the recognized expert in the traits of writing assessment field. In addition to the above-noted books, Culham is the author of textbooks and 6+1 Traits of Writing: The Complete Guide. She creates and conducts teacher workshops and videos, and designs national/international institutes for writing assessment and instruction. Culham has a highly-regarded reputation for lively and engaging workshops, depth and breadth of subject knowledge, sense of humor, volumes of practical and useful materials, and a deeply-rooted commitment to classroom teachers and students.
