| 6 November 2006, Belleville, Ontario—After 38 years of school board public service, Chris Salt, Superintendent of Human Resources Support Services and Transportation, will soon retire.
Salt has had a notable career in education. He graduated from Prince Edward Collegiate Institute in 1966 and continued his education in business studies. He began his career with the Prince Edward County Board of Education in 1969 as a certified general accountant. In 1978 he was appointed to superintendent of business. When the Prince Edward board amalgamated with the Hastings County Board of Education in 1998, Salt continued as superintendent. Over the past eight years he had has a variety of responsibilities, including operations, transportation, facilities and human resources.
Two significant accomplishments during his recent career include the restructuring of the student transportation system and successfully negotiating contracts for the district’s teaching and support staff.
In his retirement, Salt is looking forward to taking it easy and settling into a less demanding pace. In recent years he has enjoyed working with people more than numbers and may consider doing part-time consulting work. At a recent public Board meeting, Chair of the Board Judy Edgar formally thanked Salt for his years of service with HPEDSB.
Salt’s retirement date is February 28, 2007, although the use of accumulated vacation days will see him finish at the end of January.
The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board serves approximately 18,000 students each day at 46 elementary and 8 secondary schools. Supporting student achievement is the goal of 1,800 teaching and support staff who, in addition to the contributions of caring volunteers and community partners, share their passion for teaching and learning. The district covers a wide geographical area of 7,221 square kilometres bordered by Maynooth to the north, Deseronto to the east, Prince Edward County to the south and Quinte West to the west.
