| 10 May 2007, Belleville, Ontario—Local employers are teaming up with students to provide workplace safety awareness training. On Tuesday, May 15th, approximately 40 secondary school students who will be graduating and going directly into the workforce will participate in various workshops.
Highlights include the following:
• Knudsen Construction will host students for fall arrest training
• Loyalist College will host students for lock out/tag out and other safe machine operations in the manufacturing environment
• Covalence Plastics and the Ministry of Transportation will host students for forklift operation theory certification
• The Safety Guy will train students on the use of a scissor lift
• The Scullers Club will host students for their pleasure craft operator card
This event is sponsored through the OYAP, Student Success and Experiential Learning.
The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board has 46 elementary and eight secondary schools serving 18,400 students, employing 1,070 teachers and 705 support staff. The Board covers a wide geographical area of 7,221 square kilometres bordered by Maynooth to the north, Deseronto to the east, Prince Edward County to the south, and Quinte West to the west.
