27 October 2006, Belleville, Ontario—Next week, October 29 to November 4, is Canada Career Week and students across the district are getting involved! Canada Career Week is a chance for students to participate in activities and explore resources that will get them thinking about career choices in technology and skilled trades sectors.
A variety of activities and events are planned, including participation in Skills Canada Day on
Monday, October 30 and Take Our Kids to Work Day on Wednesday, November 1.
Grade 7s and 8s from the following elementary schools will participate in activities and events:
- Deseronto Public School, 613-396-2448 (Thursday afternoon)
- Frankford Public School, 613-398-6425
- Harry J. Clarke Public School, 613-969-0140 (Monday morning)
- Stirling Senior School, 613-395-3389 (see below)
- Susanna Moodie Elementary School, 613-966-8186 (see below)
Students from the following secondary schools will participate in activities and events:
- Bayside Secondary School, 613-966-2922—Thirty senior students with 150 Grade 7s and 8s from Stirling Senior Public School, six licensed tradespeople and five school staff.
- When: October 30 from 9:30 a.m to 3:15 p.m.
- What: Construction of newspaper geodesic domes from 10:30 to 12:30 and skilled trades presentations from 1:30 to 3:15
- Where: Stirling Senior Public School
- Centennial Secondary School, 613-962-9233—Eight senior students with 61 Grade 7s and 8s from Susanna Moodie Elementary School and a technology teacher.
- When: Monday, October 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:10 p.m.
- What: Construction of geodesic domes
- Where: Susanna Moodie Elementary School
These events will challenge students to think outside the box and stimulate them about the fun, rewarding and exceptional opportunities that are available in the technology and skilled trades sectors. Senior students will experience leadership training in a technological environment.
