| 27 March 2007, Belleville, Ontario—The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Mandy Savery-Whiteway as System Principal – Student Success.
Savery-Whiteway has been employed by the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board for 20 years and is currently the principal of Centennial Secondary School. A transition period to the new role will begin in April.
Savery-Whiteway has fulfilled the following roles in HPEDSB:
• Vice-principal, Bayside Secondary School
• Head of Guidance, Centennial Secondary School
• Acting vice-principal, Trenton High School
• Head of the Arts Department and guidance counsellor, Trenton High School
• Co-ordinator of community liaison, Trenton High School
As system principal - Student Success, Savery-Whiteway will fulfill the mandate of the province-wide Student Success/Learning to 18 initiative, including responsibilities to:
- Implement recommendations of provincial task forces for at-risk students, literacy and numeracy initiatives
- Provide training to support Student Success teachers
- Gather and analyze data to support the school improvement planning process
The recent appointment of Trish FitzGibbon to superintendent of education created a vacancy in the board’s senior team. An advertisement was placed both internally and externally.
The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board serves approximately 18,000 students each day at 46 elementary and 8 secondary schools. Supporting student achievement is the goal of 1,800 teaching and support staff who, in addition to the contributions of caring volunteers and community partners, share their passion for teaching and learning. The district covers a wide geographical area of 7,221 square kilometres bordered by Maynooth to the north, Deseronto to the east, Prince Edward County to the south and Quinte West to the west.
