Grade 7 and 8 students SETUP for science and technology
21 February 2006, Belleville, Ontario—Grade 7 and 8 students throughout the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board are gearing up for SETUP (Science Engineering Technology Ultimate Pathways), a one-day event to offer dynamic hands-on experiences to students interested in pathways leading to the science and technology trades.

SETUP will give students the opportunity to speak with and question community members from technology fields about the pathway they took to their career, through high school and beyond. Students will participate in events as cooperative school teams of two and then have an opportunity to take information they have gathered back to their school.

The first event will be held at Moira Secondary School on Friday, February 24th with a second event the following week on Friday, March 3rd at Centre Hastings Secondary School.

“We are excited about the potential that SETUP has for students to make direct connections with various community trades people and professionals,” remarks Suzanne Cholasta, Special Education Coordinator.

SETUP is a joint project between Curriculum Services, Information and Technology Services, Special Education Services and Student Success to address the growing need to educate all students about science and technology professions and skilled trades as viable career pathways. Many community partnerships have developed to support the success of is rewarding event.
