Pinecrest community rallies together
$8,000 in fundraising and still counting
28 September 2005, Belleville, Ontario—Recent fundraising at Pinecrest Memorial Elementary School has brought in a record amount for the Terry Fox Foundation.

At Pinecrest, students and staff are keen to support worthy causes, especially those of a local nature. Last year the school community raised $5,046 when fundraising efforts were focused on raising money for cancer research in honour of two Pinecrest families who were stricken by the disease.

This year when students and staff decided to participate in the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope, a double challenge was issued: if the school community surpassed last year’s contributions principal Jamie Robb would have his hair cut by the top sponsor, and vice-principal Leanne Phillips would kiss a farm animal.

The result? The challenge was met and surpassed! Through generous donations from the Pinecrest community, students exceeded the challenge and raised over $8,000, with a final count still to come.

“The Pinecrest community rallies together for school initiatives,” remarks Jamie Robb, Principal. “As a new principal to the school, I am thrilled to see the support Pinecrest receives from families and businesses alike.”

The school extends a special thank you to the local fire and police services, and the merchants of Main Street, Bloomfield for assisting in the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope.
