Open House at North Trenton PS celebrates $1,500 for library books
1 June 2006, Belleville, Ontario—North Trenton Public School recently received $1,500 for a Gift of Words book collection. This generous funding was made available through ABC Canada.

The funds have been used to purchase resources for the school’s library including picture, non-fiction, audio and dual-language books. Through the use of picture books, teachers and students will look at the connections between reading and writing. The non-fiction books will enhance the school’s collection in the areas of problem-solving, character development, environmental awareness, the Arts and sports.

According to Principal Deirdre Gordon, “We were thrilled to learn about the funding. The books are a wonderful addition to the library and the students are very excited to read them!”

Members of the media and school community are invited to an Open House is scheduled for Tuesday, June 6, from 9:15 to noon.

In the afternoon, guest readers from the Education Centre and community will read to children in their classrooms.

The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board has 46 elementary and eight secondary schools serving 18,700 students, employing 1,067 teachers and 775 support staff. The Board covers a wide geographical area of 7,221 square kilometres bordered by Maynooth to the north, Deseronto to the east, Prince Edward County to the south, and Quinte West to the west.
