Description
of the F1 in Schools competition
F1 in Schools is a unique technology challenge that involves the construction
of a 1/20th-scale CO2 F1 racing car out of balsa wood using Computer Aided Design
and Manufacturing technologies and a CNC router. This standards-based challenge
seeks to raise the profile of engineering among young people and give them access
to the latest technology in the engineering and manufacturing world.
The scenario plays out as follows: You are the F1 team commissioned to design, construct, and race the fastest F1 car of the future, powered by new compact CO2 power plants. In order to enter the championship, you must work in a team of at least three to a maximum of six people, allocating job roles to the members of your group.
A team of students works together to design, analyze, make, test, and race their car. Just like the real world they must incorporate marketing and seek sponsors to compete regionally, nationally, and internationally. The members of your team cover the following job roles: team manager, resources manager, manufacturing engineer, design engineer and graphic designer.
The F1 IN SCHOOLS
Challenge is supported by a worldwide network of companies including its founding
partners — Denford, Inc.; Jaguar Inc.; BAE Systems Inc.; and Pitsco, Inc.—and
its Canadian sponsors, Electrolab Training Systems, Kidder Technologies, Mastercam,
Ontario Council for Technology Education (OCTE).
