Celebrate World Teachers’ Day on 5 October 2004
The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board celebrates World Teachers’ Day, Tuesday, October 5. On that day, teachers from our communities—and from around the world—are acknowledged for all they do to educate our children.
Teachers interact with children, youth and adults every day to help develop fundamental social and life skills such as critical thinking, trust, confidence and self-esteem. Through teachers’ guidance, students learn to develop values that foster respect, compassion, understanding and patience.
The Board also wishes to recognize other employees groups who also play an essential role in the education of students: educational assistants, support and maintenance staff, management and trustees. These people make a difference through their involvement in before and after school activities, special events, and day-to-day responsibilities that keep schools operational.
“Being part of the public education system enables us to make a difference in students’ lives. Each and every one of our employees contributes to our schools being great places to learn and work,” remarks Judy Edgar, Chair of the Board.
The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board has 54 schools serving 18,900 students and employing 1,083 teachers. The Board covers a wide geographical area of 7,221 square kilometres bordered by Maynooth to the north, Deseronto to the east, Prince Edward County to the south, and Quinte West to the west.
