Students Go for Gold in Science Olympics
Prince Edward County students get ready for events
On Tuesday, November 23rd, 40 students in Grades 4, 5 and 6 from Prince Edward County schools will participate in a Science Olympics Challenge at Athol Central Public School.

Motivated and talented students will test their skills in mixed school teams on various challenges to address learning from different science strands. The areas of focus include hands-on activities related to flight, gears, structures and motion. Students will be required to use a variety of strategies and materials to analyze and resolve the challenges in the most effective and efficient manner in order to earn points towards the gold medal.

“The Science Olympics will give students an opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork and extended knowledge of science concepts within the junior level,” says Suzanne Cholasta, Gifted Enrichment System Resource Support.

Students from other schools in the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board will be involved in similar science challenges planned throughout the school year.

The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board has 54 schools serving 18,900 students and employing 1,083 teachers. The Board covers a wide geographical area of 7,221 square kilometres bordered by Maynooth to the north, Deseronto to the east, Prince Edward County to the south, and Quinte West to the west.
