Education
Centre kicks-off United Way Campaign
Staff at the Hastings and Prince
Edward Education Centre kicked-off their spirit of giving today with a “Coffee
Break for United Way” celebration. More than 60 staff came out to hear
about the goals of United Way of Quinte, learn about the important role that
member agencies play, and find out how they can make a difference.
“This year we’re taking a new approach to officially kick-off our campaign,” says Kerry Donnell, Communications Officer and Co-Chair of the Board’s United Way Committee. “We want our staff to know why it’s important to give and how their contributions, no matter how much, can really make a difference in someone’s life.”
A cheque in the amount of $263 was presented to Jack Miller, Quinte Region Campaign Chair, by Jackie St. Pierre, Committee Co-Chair. “This represents the proceeds from our Chili-Fest and 50/50 draw that took place on September 27th,” she remarks.
Upcoming fund-raising events include:
* Casual day Fridays for $1, and donations of non-perishable foods for Gleaners
Food Bank
* “Spooky Mini-Golf” on October 31st
* Silent Auction on December 5th
* Perennial sale in the spring
As well, staff are encouraged to give throughout the year through payroll deduction.
This year’s goal for the Education Centre is $5,000.
Special guest speakers in attendance
were:
* Jack Miller, Quinte Region Campaign Chair
* Jennifer White, Quinte Region Campaign Manager
* Bob McKnight, Education Chair
* David Allen, Executive Director of the Family YMCA
