Skills competition nets great rewards for Quinte students
Five Quinte Secondary School students achieved impressive results at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition 2003 held in Waterloo recently. Mathew Newcombe, Matthew Taylor, Chris Neil, Blair Gannon and Josh Jensen experienced technology first-hand by competing in the annual competition aimed at encouraging young Ontarians to consider the skilled trades and technologies as viable, first-choice career options.

In Welding, Mathew Newcombe brought home the Bronze medal, placing third out of 15 competitors. Blair Gannon and Josh Jensen finished an impressive 6th out of 26 teams in TV and Video Production, while Matthew Taylor and Chris Neil of Team Carpentry finished 11th out of 13 teams.

“Competing at the provincial level is a great learning experience for our technology students and is another positive step towards a career path,” says teacher Randy Votary.
