Director of Education takes a leadership role with peer association
Today at the annual conference of the Ontario Public Supervisory Officials’ Association (OPSOA), it was announced that Larry Langdon, Director of Education for the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board, will become the association’s new president effective June 1, 2003. Langdon has held the position of president-elect for the past year.

“Having been a member of the OPSOA Executive Committee for the past year, I am anxious to represent the membership as president,” remarks Langdon. “We have a tremendous pool of talent in OPSOA. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues on innovative and purposeful initiatives to promote and enhance public education,” he adds.

The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board gives full support to Langdon’s involvement with OPSOA.

“The Board is very supportive of this opportunity,” remarks Judy Edgar, Chair of the Board. “Director Langdon has been involved with provincial educational organizations in the past and we recognize the benefits that these opportunities bring to our students and staff.”

Langdon has been in education for 34 years. In September, 2000, he became Director of Education and Secretary of the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board. He began his teaching career as an elementary teacher with the Lennox and Addington County Board of Education. Since then, he has worked within the publicly funded school system as a teacher, consultant, school level administrator in both the elementary and secondary panels, Provincial Teacher Federation President, Chair of the Council of Ontario Directors of Education, and as the Director of the Operations and Field Services Branch at the Ministry of Education and Training.

At the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board, Landgon spearheaded the development of a strategic planning approach through the identification of Board priorities for 2000–2002 and the review and renewal of these priorities for 2002–2004 in the System Strategic Plan—Dare to Dream: Beyond Today. This approach has resulted in a series of system-wide initiatives that are designed to maintain and wherever possible, enhance the Board’s image as A Great Place to Learn and A Great Place to Work!
