Celebrating the second annual Community Breakfast
September is BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING Month and we are celebrating! The second annual Community Breakfast hosted by the Food for Learning Committee takes place on Saturday, September 21, 2002, at Park Dale Public School, 9:30 A.M.

As recognition of the link between good nutrition and better learning increases, so does our shared desire to help kids learn, grow and thrive. To learn well, children need to eat well. While good nutrition begins at home, it also continues in the school. The number of nutrition programs in our schools increased last year and this year we are aiming for 100% participation from all 46 elementary schools in our district.

"The Community Breakfast gives us an opportunity to thank the community for their generous support," says Kellie Brace, Food for Learning Coordinator. "Citizens within our district have come together to ensure nutritious food is available to any student who needs it. Volunteers, food, funds, equipment and other donations come from across the community, and without such devotion, we couldn't run these programs," she adds.

Several special guests will attend the celebration, including keynote speaker Clay Ives, Olympic bronze medal winner in luge; Peter Annis, Special Assistant to Minister of Agriculture Lyle Vanclief; Ernie Parsons, MPP for Prince Edward/Hastings; Kay Manderville, City Councillor; Marie Noelle Lefebvre from BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING, Canadian Living Foundation; and David Fox, Superintendent of Instruction. As well, presentations will be made to long-term supporters of our Food for Learning program for their commitment and dedication.

Tickets are $3 for adults, children under 12 are free. There will be face-painting and colouring activities for children. For more information and to purchase tickets, contact Kellie Brace at 966-9491 x2232.
