Students at Centennial Secondary School receive Ontario School Counsellor's Award
Creativity, commitment and an outstanding drama performance helped students from Centennial Secondary School become the recipients of The Ontario School Counsellor’s Association “Career Education Citation” award. This provincial award is presented annually to individuals or groups who have created, contributed to or delivered career education materials of high quality and considerable value to students.

Eleven senior dramatic arts students from Centennial Secondary School created and performed a drama presentation entitled “It’s Your Life.” This production, directed and produced by their dramatic arts teacher
Ms. Pam Mckibbon and retired dramatic arts teacher Mr. Peter Shortall, was designed for use in elementary schools to stimulate discussion concerning post secondary destinations, in particular the skilled trades.

The presentation was performed for 1,200 Grade 8 students, at 12 separate locations, in the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board and the Algonquin Lakeshore Catholic District School Board. At the conclusion or the drama presentations, Ann Werkhoven of Cogeco Cable assisted the students and teachers in preparing a videotape of their performance for its continued use in our region.

The student actors were : Luke Corrigan, Philip Ginther, Rachael Graham, Rachel Holland, Christina Jamieson, Kalla Mair, Katie Reid, Kirstin Renz, Maxime Riviere-Anderson, Lynda Wannamaker and Sonya Zaback.

Ms. Pam Mckibbon was presented with the award at the annual conference of the Ontario School Counsellors’ Association held in Toronto on November 8, 2002.
