A learning experience that's out of this world
Students' imaginations
take flight with Lindsay Evans and Laryssa Patten of the Canadian Space
Agency during the Robotics Open House on Tuesday, April 9 at 6:30 p.m.
at Centennial Secondary School.
Evans and Patten will
be speaking to grades 4 to 8 students in the gifted enrichment program
of the Hastings and Prince Edward Counties School Board as part of their
Robotics Open House. Student work and projects will be featured along with
a demonstration by the OPP tactical team of robotics used for safety and
security.
As Canadian astronaut
robotics trainers, both Evans and Patten instruct American, Canadian, Japanese,
and European astronauts and Russian cosmonauts. They train both ground
support personnel and astronauts in the operations of Canadian robots such
as the Canadarm2 and the Mobile Servicing System on the International Space
Station.
As part of the provincial
'Robotics Challenge' program, junior and intermediate students have been
introduced to a variety of design, technological and programming skills.
Over 100 students from Harmony, Hillcrest, Kente, Park Dale, Prince of
Wales , Susanna Moodie, and Tyendinaga public schools will be presenting
their work at the open house, starting at 6:30 p.m.
