New teachers hit the books early
With about two weeks to the start of school, new teachers with the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board are hitting the books early. Over 75 new teachers are in New Teacher Orientation sessions beginning August 19th.

The sessions cover a wide range of topics, including: Getting Started on Your First Day, Balanced Literacy and Long Range Planning for elementary teachers, Assessment Planning and Literacy for secondary teachers, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, and Health & Safety (WHIMIS).

"Our Board is committed to providing staff with opportunities to enhance their leadership skills and knowledge," says David Fox, Superintendent of Instruction. "This allows us to respond successfully to changes within the teaching profession," he adds.

These new teachers are filling vacancies created by teacher retirements in June. Some are just beginning their careers in education while others bring with them years of skills and experience.

"We are excited about the new teachers joining our dedicated teaching team in Hastings and Prince Edward," says Board Chair, Judy Edgar. "Together we will continue to make this A Great Place to Work and A Great Place to Learn," she adds.

The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board has 54 schools, over 19,000 students, and covers an extensive area from Bancroft in the north through to Picton in the south.
