School enrolments meet projections
The Hastings and Prince
Edward District School Board has completed its preliminary enrolment calculations
for the 2001-2002 school year. The Board is pleased that, in both elementary
and secondary schools, enrolments are very close to the projections issued
in the spring.
In elementary schools, total
enrolment stands at 13,736 which is a slight increase over its projection
of 13,640. Due to the changing demographics of the region, this is a decline
in enrolment of just over 400 students from last year.
Secondary enrolments currently
stand at 7,148. This number is almost two hundred students more than was
projected, but an analysis of trends indicates that the number on the official
count date of October 1, 2001 will be very close to the projected number
of 6,955. Enrolment at the secondary schools has been relatively
stable over the last few years, staying around the 7,000 mark.
