Bus drivers take safety seriously

School bus drivers have a very important job and responsibility - the safety of students.  Behind the wheel of that big yellow school bus is a driver who takes safety seriously and has already put in between 20 to 40 hours of specialized training.
Between October 15 and 18, the Joint Transportation Authourity of the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board and the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board together with the Local School Bus Operators Association are providing additional training with a series of school bus safety workshops for bus drivers.
Workshop topics include Evacuation Procedures, Loading and Unloading Procedures, the Pink Slip Process for documenting and reporting incidents on the bus, Proper Use of Fire Extinguishers, and Epi-pen Use. Workshops are lead by professionals from the Ministry of Transportation, the local Fire Department, Principals, or the VON.
The Workshops will be held on the following dates beginning at 6:00 p.m.:

In Hastings and Prince Edward counties, 390 bus drivers deliver approximately 20,000 students by bus, travelling more than 6.4 million kilometres annually.
