Change of leadership for the Board

The trustees of the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board elected a new Chair and Vice-chair at their annual meeting on December 3, 2001.
Judy Edgar, trustee for North Hastings, was elected Chair for 2002. She ran unopposed for the position, replacing Audrey Carter, trustee for North Prince Edward, who served as Chair for the last two years as well as the period of time left on Ernie Parsons' term upon his election to MPP for Prince Edward - Hastings.
"This is truly an honour," said Chair Edgar. "There's an incredible team spirit here on this Board. There are going to be lots of challenges, but we're going to continue to provide the best we can offer in public education." Chair Edgar was an active parent volunteer with schools before becoming a trustee in 1997 with the first Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board. She served as Vice-chair during the last term and chaired the Suspension Appeal Committee.
Belleville trustee, Cliff Cotton, was elected Vice-chair. Mr. Cotton, who had worked in School Board administration for 26 years, was first elected to the former Hastings County Board of Education in 1989 and  has served as a trustee for twelve years. He has also been the Board's representative to the Ontario Public School Boards' Association and has served on a number of school board committees, as well as having a long-time involvement with the local Health Unit.
Trustees also approved memberships on the following committees for 2002: Operations & Finance, Program & Human Resources, Executive, Special Education Advisory, Suspension Appeals, Expulsion Committee, Supervised Alternative Leaning for Excused Pupils, Joint Transportation, Ontario Public School Boards Association.
