Celebrate World Teachers' Day

Have you thanked a teacher today? October 5 is your opportunity - it's World Teachers' Day. The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board is joining organizations around the world in celebration of the special contributions that our teachers make in the lives of our children and the development of our society.
This year's theme, "Teachers Expanding Horizons" recognizes the work and unique role played by teachers.
Audrey Carter, Chair of the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board states,"I believe that our teachers and educational workers deserve recognition for their continued dedication in providing an excellent education for our students. Their hard work contributed to successes such as 6,000 students participating in the Celebration of Dance, accreditation of our International Baccalaureate Program, more than 200 graduating students named Ontario Scholars, six students advancing to the Canada Wide Science Fair, Natural Bridges programs that are the envy of the province, and major dramatic and musical productions in all eight of our secondary schools and many of our elementary schools ."
"Our teachers do an exceptional job," adds Carter. "And many of them are life-long learners themselves. Numerous teachers expanded their own horizons this summer with training in TVO's Galaxy Classroom, Summer Institutes, and other courses in their particular area specialty."
The United Nations proclaimed the first World Teachers' Day in 1994 and the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board would like everyone to join them on October 5, 2000, in celebrating the contributions of our teachers.
