Agreement ratified with
public school secondary teachers

The Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board and District 29 of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation are pleased to announce an agreement on a new one year contact. The previous contract had expired on August 31, 2000. Negotiations were complicated by government mandated changes to funding and teacher workload, however, a tentative agreement was reached on November 22, 2000.
Highlights of the new contract are as follows:

staffing will remain at current levels including staff for libraries, guidance counseling and special education;
there will be a 3.1% salary increase retroactive to September 1, 2000;
a second increase of 0.65% will be put into place January 31, 2001;
teachers' workload will be the government mandated 6.67 per year. This includes teaching 6.5 classes out of eight periods plus 0.17 dedicated to the Teacher Advisory Program.

The Board and the Federation are pleased to have, once again, achieved a negotiated settlement that will result in producing a stable, positive learning and working environment for the life of the agreement.
