Leadership appointments and transfers

At its May 28, 2001 Board meeting, the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board approved a number of appointments and transfers to the elementary and secondary leadership teams. Each year a number of factors combine to cause a review of the administrative strength assigned to schools in the system.
This year in the elementary panel, school closures, declining enrolment across the system, and retirements are the main factors considered. In North Hastings, Claude Robinson at North Hastings Senior Elementary has submitted his retirement letter and, in the Belleville area, Jan Coombs at Tyendinaga Public School and Ralph Spencer of Prince of Wales and Hillcrest are retiring. Brian Smith at Queen Elizabeth in Trenton has also indicated his intention to retire. The following is a summary of elementary Principal and Vice-Principal appointments and transfers:

Also at its May 28, 2001 Board meeting, the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board approved a number of appointments the secondary leadership teams. The retirements of Elmer Buchanan, Dawn Haider, Jim Murray, Bob Holt, and David MacKay resulted in vice-principal vacancies at Centre Hastings, Centennial and Moira secondary schools, and a principal vacancy at Moira.
The appointments for the 2001-2002 school year are as follows:

Kim Potvin, currently a head of Special Education at Centennial Secondary School is appointed vice-principal of Centennial Secondary School;
Grant Montgomery, currently a curriculum co-ordinator at the Education Centre is appointed vice-principal of Centre Hastings Secondary School;
Joan Bennett, currently the head of Special Education at Moira Secondary School is appointed vice-principal of Moira Secondary School
Diane Fair, currently the principal at Campbellford District Secondary School of the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, is appointed principal of Moira Secondary School.

These appointments and transfers have been made to allow for the minimum disruption of students. The Board would like to thank its retiring Principals and Vice-Principals for their years of dedicated service to the students of the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board.
