Take Our Kids to Work... continued
On Wednesday, May 9, over
800 more Grade 9 students from the Hastings and Prince Edward District
School Board are off to work. It's Take Our Kids to Work day, part II.
Take Our Kids to Work is
being offered to Grade 9 students in all eight of the Secondary Schools
in the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board. The program strives
to help students answer one of life's questions: "How can I prepare for
my future role as a worker?" First hand observation of the working world
is part of the way in which students will seek answers to that question.
"Students will be placed
in a variety of settings and have the opportunity to experience a day of
work in place of a day of school," says Carolyn Ketcheson, Careers Curriculum
Co-ordinator with the Board. "The purpose of the event is to stimulate
discussion and learning about the workplace. It is not necessarily expected
that students will be ready to select a particular career, but this Grade
9 activity encourages students to begin thinking about possible workplace
options."
On May 9, Grade 9 students
from Centennial Secondary School, Centre Hastings Secondary School, Trenton
High School, Moira Secondary School, and North Hastings High School, will
be taking part. The remaining Grade 9 students in the District took part
in Take Our Kids to Work Day on November 1, 2000. Between the two days,
almost 1,600 students from the Hastings and Prince Edward District School
Board will be experiencing a day in the workplace.
