Take your kids to work
On Wednesday, November 1,
780 Grade 9 students from the Hastings and Prince Edward District School
Board and will be off to work. It's Take Our Kids to Work day for these
schools so students will join their parents at work for the day.
Take Our Kids to Work is being offered to Grade 9 students in all eight
of the Secondary Schools in the Hastings and Prince Edward District School
Board. The program strives to help students answer one of life's big questions:
"How can I prepare for my future role as a worker?" First hand observation
of the working world is part of the way in which students will seek answers
to that question.
"This program offers students
learning experiences that they just can't get in the classroom," says Carolyn
Ketcheson, Careers Curriculum Co-ordinator with the Board. "It also addresses
the new career education requirements set out by the Ministry of Education."
This program is supported
by many local businesses, service clubs, and chambers of commerce. Participating
workplaces will be displaying a Take Our Kids to Work poster as a sign
of their support.
On November 1 Grade 9 students
from Bayside Secondary School, Moira Secondary School, North Hastings High
School, Prince Edward Collegiate Institute, and Quinte Secondary School
will be taking part. The rest of the Grade 9 students in the District will
be taking part in Take Our Kids to Work Day on May 9, 2001.
