School enrolments meet projections
The Hastings and Prince Edward
District School Board has completed its preliminary enrolment calculations
for the 2000-2001 school year. The Board is pleased that, in both elementary
and secondary schools, enrolments are very close to the projections issued
in the spring.
In elementary schools, total
enrolment stands at 14,140 which is a slight increase over its projection
of 14,107. Increased enrolments beyond projections in Junior and Senior
Kindergarten were reported in a number of schools and have resulted in
seven additional full time equivalent teachers being hired across the system.
Secondary enrolments currently
stand at 7,092, down slightly from last year when enrolments were 7, 255.
An analysis of previous years' trends indicates that the Board will come
very close to the projected number of students (7,001) on the official
count date of October 31, 2000.
