Young programmers help Bayside Secondary School staff
Students, Tyler Seniuk and
James Dutrisac, are training the teachers at local high schools. Tyler
and James are part of the first ever NetSolutions class at Bayside Secondary
School.
In the NetSolutions program,
students take a four credit intensive program that gives them the flexibility
to work with real clients to help them solve their technology-based networking
needs. In the case of Tyler and James, they worked with staff at Bayside
Secondary School to write a software program that makes it easier for teachers
to use the new computerized provincial Report Card.
"They've been able to work
through the whole software development process - planning, programming,
implementations and troubleshooting," said NetSolutions teacher, Paul Pickard.
"We've had some good feedback on how easy it is to use and they've already
been contacted by other schools who are interested in the program."
NetSolutions is an exciting
and innovative new program for students who want a head start in high tech.
It's offered through a partnership with Bayside Secondary School,
Nortel Networks*, and Loyalist College. In addition to networking and telecommunications
skills, students develop their communication, human relations and problem-solving
skills. Upon completion of the program, students will be prepared to work
on the leading edge of networking technology and may gain industry-recognized
certification.
Nineteen students are involved
in the program this year with each receiving four credits in math, computer
science, co-operative education, and computer engineering. The program
is open to any Grade 11 or 12 student in the Quinte area, however, space
is limited. For more information on how to apply for NetSolutions, please
