Best Start Program

Get the Best Start for your child

Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board is pleased to be part of the provincial government's Best Start program. Best Start offers early learning and care programs to 4- and 5-year-olds as a companion to current Junior and Senior Kindergarten.

Nine schools host the Best Start progam. Please contact the site operator for more information.

Best Start programs provide:

  • School readiness through early learning and licensed childcare.
  • Easier accessibility for families requiring childcare.
  • Access to a wide range of early learning and care services.
  • Extended hours at some sites.

Did you know . . .

  • Children who arrive ready to learn for Grade 1 are more likely to complete high school with all of its advantages.
  • Three-quarters of Ontario parents in families with children under five work outside the home.

Diverse programs are available to meet community needs

  • Nursery/preschool programs
  • Before and after school care
  • Full or partial daycare
  • Sites may offer additional programs such as parenting supports, links to specialized services and special needs resources.

Subsidies
