This update provides a summary of the public meeting of Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board held Monday, December 6, 2010 at the Education Centre. It is an unofficial summary of the meeting; official minutes will be approved at the next meeting in January.
Information
Director of Education Kathy Soule read the official returns from the municipal election held Monday, October 25, 2010. All Board members then recited and signed a Declaration of Office: Member of School Board and an Oath of Allegiance. All trustees were invited to give a brief introduction and background of themselves.
Recommendations
Appointment of First Nations representative from Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte
Mike Brant was appointed as First Nations representative from Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte.
Appointment of scrutineers
Superintendents Rob McGall and Dave Rutherford were appointed as scrutineers for the chair and vice-chair elections.
Election of Board Chair
Carl Pitman was elected as Chair of the Board.
Election of Board Vice-chair
Mary Hall was elected as Vice-chair of the Board.
Trustee membership on standing, statutory and administrative committees
STANDING COMMITTEES
Trustees selected membership on standing committees. For 2011, standing committees will consist of the following members:
- Operations and Finance Committee
Mike Brant, Sam Clements, Thelma Goodfellow, Mary Hall, Dwayne Inch, Dave Patterson. Dwayne Inch will be chair and Sam Clements will be vice-chair.
- Program and Human Resource Committee
Jennifer Cobb, Lucille Kyle, Thelma Goodfellow, Carl Pitman and Jim Williams. Thelma Goodfellow will be chair and Jim Williams will be vice-chair.
- Executive Committee
Consists of the Board Chair, Vice-chair and above-noted standing committee chairs, plus one additional member. Sam Clements was elected as the fifth member.
STATUTORY COMMITTEES
Trustees selected membership on statutory committees. For 2011, statutory committees will consist of the following members:
- Audit Committee
Sam Clements, Dwayne Inch and Carl Pitman.
- Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC)
Thelma Goodfellow and Lucille Kyle. Dwayne Inch and Dave Patterson will be the alternates.
- Supervised Alternative Learning Committee
Mike Brant and Jennifer Cobb. Jim Williams will be the alternate.
- Student Enrolment/School Capacity Committee
Consists of all Board members. Jim Williams will be chair and Thelma Goodfellow will be vice-chair.

- Members-at-large for the next four years will be Eve Jelley and Benzie Sangma
