Volunteer of the Year award presented to Florence Fleming
On Thursday, June 17, 2010 Florence Fleming was presented with a Volunteer of the Year award from Plainfield Community Homes at their AGM. Florence is an Educational Assistant at Breadner Elementary School and has been with Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board since October 1998.
At the AGM presentation, Florence said, “I feel honoured that as a volunteer I have been recognized as being a part of the success of the organization.”
Florence received this recognition award because she has been a member of the external Rights Review Committee with Plainfield Community Homes since its inception in 2008. She also volunteers annually with Operation Red Nose as a volunteer driver and is the Team Captain for the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
People’s rights are of great interest to Florence, she feels volunteering is important and works hard to assist others in need.
“I think everyone should get involved in the community. It is an opportunity to meet new people and see what is happening outside of work and family life. Most non-profit agencies rely greatly on volunteers to be successful,” said Florence.
Many personal stories were shared at the Plainfield Community Homes AGM and remind Florence why she continues to care about people and what happens in their lives.
