Trenton High to host video conference with soldiers

Trenton High School will be hosting an interactive video conference event on Thursday, November 11, 2010. Students will correspond live with three Canadian soldiers currently deployed in Afghanistan.

"We are ever thankful for those brave men and women who have dedicated their lives past and present, to ensure our way of life," said Principal Darren McFarlane. "With the military being such a big part of our community, we feel passionate about Remembrance Day. This year we wanted to involve students and our school community in a more direct way."

During the live broadcast, three soldiers will address the assembly then respond to questions. The soldiers and audience will see each other. Following the formal assembly, students and families with loved ones in Afghanistan stationed at the broadcast area will be able to communicate with their family members for a short period of time.

A limited number of seats is available for parents and community members who would like to share in the assembly. Start time is 10:00 a.m.

The Canadian Military has said that this type of guest speaker event has never been done before, either at the secondary or post-secondary levels. In fact, the Canadian Military had to write policy in order to give approval for it to happen.
