Three students advance to provincial tech skills competition
Congratulations to three secondary school students who placed in the top of their category at the Skills Canada Ontario Qualifying Competition over the weekend.
- Jeff Chiasson, Quinte Secondary School, who placed first in Welding.
- Mike Allen and Dylan Turtle, Moira Secondary School, who placed third in TV and Video Production.
Jeff, Mike and Dylan will join the team of students and staff going to the Ontario Technological Skills Competition from April 30 – May 2, 2012 in Waterloo, Ontario. This event is the largest skilled trades competition for students in Canada. It involves 1,900 competitors from elementary, secondary and post-secondary schools participating in 60+ skilled trade contest areas and gets 30,000+ spectators.
In order to compete at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition competitors must first qualify at the Qualifying Competition. The competition can be intense as students from multiple school boards compete against each other and provincial standards. Only the top competitors advance in the contests listed below.
- 2D Character Computer Animation (Team of 2)
- Carpentry (Individual)
- Culinary Arts
- Small Powered Equipment
- TV and Video Production (Team of 2)
