Students use Skype technology to interact with authors

Interaction between students and award-winning authors will blaze a new trail over the Internet. By using Skype, the children will talk to and see the authors although both parties will be in separate locations. The children will remain in their schools while the authors will be in different parts of the world. Skype is a software application that allows users to talk over the Internet.

“Students at Sir Mackenzie Bowell Public School and Stirling Senior Public School are pumped about this,” remarked Heather Yearwood, Teacher Librarian Resource Teacher. “It will be a fantastic learning experience in literacy and technology.”

Children have already read books by the three authors who will be contacted:
1. Rene Schmidt, who wrote Leaving Fletchville
2. Carol Matas, who wrote Cloning Miranda
3. Alma Fullerton, who wrote Libertad

This project was made possible due funding through a Project Enhancement Fund grant from The Hastings and Prince Edward Learning Foundation.
