Students role played as United Nations delegates

11th Annual Model United Nations Conference focused on water issues

They researched the topic, prepared position papers and role played as United Nations delegates. They presented their findings and debated their assigned country positions on global water issues. The atmosphere was electric as students from seven district secondary schools, along with representatives from the neighbouring Catholic school board, participated in the 11th Annual Model United Nations Conference on October 30 and 31, 2008 at Belleville’s Moira Secondary School.

Model United Nations events take place around the world. The aim is to educate partipants about world issues, effective communication and consensus-building, and to learn about the United Nations process. Students role play as foreign diplomats.

The central theme of this year’s event was water issues and the effects on the 29 ‘participating’ countries. During the conference, student delegates voted on resolutions that took the following into consideration:
