Rob McGall named as new director of education for Hastings and Prince Edward DSB

Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board has selected Rob McGall as the new director of education. McGall, presently a superintendent of education at HPEDSB, succeeds retiring director Kathy Soule. The appointment is effective September 1, 2011.

“It was a decision supported by all Board members. Rob has demonstrated exemplary leadership as a superintendent. He brings experience in human resources, negotiations, curriculum services and organizational effectiveness. He has a personal style which we believe will be an excellent fit as the new chief executive officer for this organization,” remarked Carl Pitman, Chair of the Board.

McGall grew up in Belleville and attended King George Public School and Quinte Secondary School. His post-secondary education was at Queen’s University, University of Toronto and Brock University. From 1983 to 2002 he worked for Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board in a variety of roles including teacher, department head, vice-principal and principal. He was active in the leadership development program in Hamilton, and was chair of the governance committee responsible for up combining policies and procedures when Hamilton and Wentworth amalgamated.

McGall returned to this area in 2002 to become principal at Quinte Secondary School. In 2004 he was appointed superintendent of curriculum and schools, followed by a 2007 appointment to superintendent of Human Resources and schools. During his time as superintendent he initiated the differentiated support model and school improvement planning frameworks, as well as fostered positive labour relations and staff development.

“It is an honour to be appointed director of this dynamic organization. Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board is considered to be a leader in leadership development, effective instruction and organizational planning, with outstanding employees and a focus on student achievement. I am committed to working for children and to enhancing the future of public education. I look forward to joining with employees, parents/guardians, trustees and the communities in Hastings and Prince Edward to help students become caring, contributing decision-makers of our future,” stated McGall.

Rob McGall and his wife Jane, a retired teacher, have four grown children.

“I am a product of our school board and my four children are Hasting and Prince Edward graduates. As an organization, we will continue to build on the strong foundation of Growing with Character and the AiM—Achievement in Motion for Student Success System Plan, with a continued focus on student success, employee excellence and connecting with the communities we serve. Our mission is straightforward: create the best possible learning environments so that our students have the required academic and social skills needed to succeed in life.”

Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board serves more than 15,700 students each day at 46 elementary and eight secondary schools. Supporting student achievement is the goal of close to 1,900 teaching and support staff who, in addition to the contributions of caring volunteers and community partners, provide the best opportunity for students to learn. The district covers a wide geographical area of 7,221 square kilometres bordered by Maynooth to the north, Deseronto to the east, Prince Edward County to the south and Quinte West to the west.
