With the first day of school just two weeks away, Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board will be hosting a full day of orientation for new teachers on Wednesday, August 20. Thirty-six new teachers are slated to participate in this year’s event.
New teacher orientation is part of the provincial New Teacher Induction Program (NTIP). It is also the second step in a continuum of teacher professional development to support effective teaching, learning, and assessment practices, building on and complementing the first step: pre-service education programs taken at faculties of education. NTIP provides another full year of professional support so that new teachers can develop the requisite skills and knowledge to enable them to achieve success as experienced teachers in Ontario.
NTIP consists of the following induction elements:

Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board serves more than 16,800 students each day at 46 elementary and 8 secondary schools. Supporting student achievement is the goal of close to 1,800 teaching and support staff who, in addition to the contributions of caring volunteers and community partners, provide the best opportunity for students to learn. The district covers a wide geographical area of 7,221 square kilometres bordered by Maynooth to the north, Deseronto to the east, Prince Edward County to the south and Quinte West to the west.
