Public school board ratifies two-year collective agreement with newest union
School board trustees have ratified a two-year collective agreement between Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board and the Association of Professional Student Services Personnel, Hastings Prince Edward District (APSSP-HPE).
The collective agreement is for the period September 1, 2010 to August 31, 2012 and covers 29 employees who are child and youth counselors, attendance counselors, speech/language pathologists, autism student support coordinators, psychometrists and psychoeducational assessment personnel.
“We are pleased to have reached an agreement with the local APSSP. Both teams negotiated in a respectful fashion to achieve a first collective agreement for this group. These individuals play an important role in supporting the education of children and youth. We appreciate and value all they do every day to assist students in achieving success,” remarked Mary Hall, Vice-chair of the Board.
Highlights of the new agreement include the following:
- Alignment with Provincial Discussion Table (PDT) agreements for other employees covered by collective agreements which includes a 3% salary increase effective September 1, 2011.
- Additional step added to the salary grid; salary ranges are from $39,486 to $74,963 depending on job classification, education requirements, etc.
- Alignment of work hours for all employees in the group.
- Formal communication structures and staffing language regarding processes for assigning work placements.
The APSSP-HPE was certified on July 21, 2010. Negotiations commenced September 13, 2010, with eight meetings held between then and June 2011. A tentative agreement was reached on June 3, 2011. Both teams held ratification votes on June 13, 2011.
