Picton teacher Rob Garden received Kids’ Fit Mentor award

Congratulations to Rob Garden, newly-awarded Kids’ Fit Mentor of the Year Award!

Garden is a teacher at Prince Edward Collegiate Institute in Picton. He received the award for his dedication to youth. Garden created the Panther Hoops basketball skills program and has organized the County Clippers basketball league. Both offer Prince Edward County youth a low-cost, organized alternative to hockey and figure skating during the winter months. Garden also coaches the basketball and baseball teams at PECI.

Picton Mayor Peter Mertens presented the award at a ceremony in mid-April. Garden was chosen from a slate of five nominees.

Garden’s dedication to youth is a demonstration of the school board Growing with Character attributes of caring, cooperation, humour and responsibility.

Last year’s recipient, Tinneke Wilson, is also a teacher with Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board.
