Parties reach tentative agreement for secondary school teachers

Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) District 29 are pleased to announce the parties have reached a tentative collective agreement for the period September 1, 2008 to August 31, 2012.

“This is welcome news,” remarks Carl Pitman, Chair of the Board. “Both teams negotiated in a collaborative fashion to come to terms on local issues once a Provincial Discussion Table (PDT) agreement was in place. I applaud the efforts of both the Board team and the OSSTF team, and look forward to successful ratification by each party,” he adds.

Scott Marshall, President of OSSTF District 29 echoes these sentiments. “I am pleased with the cooperation shown by both sides. Our collective focus is on creating safe, supportive and productive learning environments for all students.”

Board members will hold a ratification vote on Monday, January 26, 2009. A date for ratification by OSSTF District 29 will take place the same week with a date still to be determined. Under the provincial agreement, the parties have until Friday, January 30, 2009 to ratify.
