A year-end celebratory event is planned for 80 secondary school students.
Our Schools, Our Voices has been planned by the Student Voice Committee. This committee is made up of two students from each secondary school, their Student Success teachers and the central Student Success leader. They have met four times since September 2009 to address how to make schools more engaging.
The Student Voice Committee was formed as a result of the Ministry of Education Student Voice initiative introduced in 2008. Through Student Voice, students are challenged to make school more engaging.
This event is supported through a Ministry of Education grant. Students said they want the opportunity to make a difference in their classroom, school and community. The belief is that change happens when people come together to work on a shared idea or goal.
Nine projects were approved for Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board:
- Two at Bayside Secondary School
- One at College Street Public School
- Two at Moira Secondary School
- One at North Hastings High School
- One at Pinecrest Memorial Elementary School
- One at Trenton High School
