Karen Fox, Human Resources Officer – non-teaching, was recently elected President of the Ontario Association of School Business Officials (OASBO ).
“I am learning and growing professionally through this experience and have met so many different people. I have acquired a broader perspective of the business of education and hope to contribute in a positive and meaningful way,” said Karen.
Karen has been a member of OASBO for approximately 11 years. She regularly attends Human Resource Committee meetings, and has been on the Board of Directors for the past five years. Karen was Chair of the HR Committee, and then elected to Director for two terms (4 years), then appointed as Vice-President which automatically leads to the one year term as President. Karen was announced President at the Annual General Meeting in May, 2010.
“This is an exciting leadership opportunity. I am working with a very dynamic and capable Board of Directors,” remarked Karen.
The role of President provides leadership to the association and ensures the association operates in compliance with stated objectives. Some of the duties include acting as chair of the board and attending executive meetings, attending various functions and presenting where required, assisting in the development of formal communications, and being an ex-officio of all standing committees of the association.
“I truly appreciate this opportunity and sincerely thank HPEDSB senior administration for their support. It is my intent to represent our district to the best of my professional abilities and establish valuable connections that will serve us into the future,” said Karen.
OASBO is a professional organization that is dedicated to the pursuit and support of quality education for all students. OASBO continues to grow in membership and is a strong and vibrant association with close to 1000 members. The association provides valuable networking forums for collaboration with peers and the sharing of best practice information. There are 15 standing committees representing the various business functions in education. OASBO is regularly approached by other associations and the Ministry of Education to partner on current initiatives and to assist in the resolution of common issues.
