New Progress Report Card for elementary school students
Elementary school students in Grades 1 to 8 will bring home a new Progress Report Card on Friday, November 19, 2010. This report card will look different than ones in previous years. A letter will be going home to explain the changes.
The new Progress Report Card will give an indication of the child’s progress in the development of the following learning skills and work habits: Responsibility, Organization, Independent Work, Collaboration, Initiative and Self-regulation.
These changes are part of Growing Success, the Ontario government’s updated policy on the assessment, evaluation and reporting of student achievement. The progress report encourages early and ongoing communication between parents/guardians and their child’s teacher. We know that you want clear, meaningful, and understandable information about how your child is doing at school.
The Ministry of Education has produced a brochure, Supporting Your Child’s Learning through Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting, which provides a more comprehensive overview of the changes. A copy is available on line at: http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/parents/ReportCard_En.pdf.
