Moira Secondary School students win first place at the 2010 Roboticon Competition

Moira Secondary School sent a team of three students to compete in the University of Guelph’s Roboticon Competition on March 20, 2010 and won first place.

The competition was hosted by the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology at the University of Guelph and open to all secondary schools across Ontario. Teams were required to build and program a robot from a Lego Mindstorms Robot kit to complete two challenges. The first challenge was unveiled three months before the competition date to allow preparation; the second challenge was revealed at the competition.
The nature of the challenges required the team to build a robot that would navigate through a maze to look for hidden items, as well as a robot that was capable following a predetermined path to capture and bring back a prize to its starting point.
The Trojan Robotics team captured first overall out of 22 teams in the competition. The team placed second in challenge one, and first place in challenge two. The winning members from the Trojans Robotics team are Josh Zhang, Ben Sutton and Stephen Sutton.
