Media advisory: Youth Forum inspires action

Students eager to commit to make changes to enhance their communities – and beyond

Secondary school students in Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board are preparing to be inspired at a dynamic event on Wednesday, November 25, 2009.

The Student Senate will be hosting the annual Youth Forum, which features a roster of student speakers, teachers and school administrators, plus two special guest speakers. The theme this year is to motivate participants to make the changes they want to see in themselves, in their schools, in their communities and around the globe.

Student presentations will feature four themes: personal change, school change, community change and global change.

The Youth Forum is sponsored by Ameresco Canada, the district’s longtime partner in the Better Schools™ school-renewal and energy-management program. The comprehensive endeavour has upgraded school infrastructure, trimming operating costs and reducing greenhouse gas emissions while improving the learning and working environments and enhancing academic success. A key part of this program is the Better Schools-funded environmental curriculum, EarthCARE™, An Environmental Education Partnership (EC). EC will be used as the starting point for a number of student initiatives to be launched following the Youth Forum.
