Kellogg’s donates $15,000 to school board learning foundation

Food for Learning student nutrition programs received a welcome $15,000 donation from Kellogg’s.

Representatives from Kellogg’s in Belleville presented the cheque at Prince of Wales Public School, site of a Food for Learning (FFL) nutrition program. An internal review committee of Kellogg’s employees prioritized all donation requests and selected FFL as a recipient again this year.

The visit to Prince of Wales Public School showed Kellogg’s staff how their donation will be used. Representatives toured the school prior to making the presentation.

Food for Learning programs can be either a breakfast, snack or lunch program, offered during the school day to provide food to students who arrive at school without the adequate nutrition required to sustain them through the school day. The Ministry of Children and Youth Services has provided nutrition guidelines for student nutrition programs throughout Ontario, which ensures that the food students receive is healthy and will have a positive impact on their ability to learn.

Presently 154 student nutrition programs are in place throughout Hastings and Prince Edward counties. This year alone, it is estimated that Food for Learning programs will provide approximately 630,000 meals and snacks to over 10,000 students.

As a program of The Hastings and Prince Edward Learning Foundation, Food for Learning is a community partnership that is committed to enhancing classroom learning by supporting school nutrition programs. Food for Learning strives to ensure that all children in Hastings & Prince Edward counties are attending school well nourished and ready to learn.
