Go Global speaking tour at Bayside Secondary School

Bayside Secondary School was honoured to host guest speakers from the Free The Children organization. Two motivational speakers, Emily Payne and Spencer West, presented a talk on changing the world through daily choices. This energizing and inspirational opportunity highlighted for students how consistent, small changes can reshape our world, and how our personal choices today affect future circumstances.

This event showed students how they could participate in achieving the United Nations Millennium Goals by addressing such things as:

• Poverty

• Educational needs

• HIV/Aids

• Abuse of children who are less fortunate than us.

The organization’s Me To We program sets out goals to instigate change by thinking beyond ourselves, to consider the needs of others, and by collective action and initiatives making positive contributions and to our world.

This speaking event kicked off of an exciting year of fundraising for the Brick by Brick program with Free the Children. This year Bayside SS will join with Centennial SS to raise funds in order to continue building schools. The Bayside SS goal is to raise enough money this year to build another school in China. Their challenge is to ask each school in the district to participate in this fundraising effort by establishing a Global Awareness Committee, and contributing to Free The Children’s goal of children helping children.

Bayside Secondary School (BSS) is a dynamic learning environment on a 200 acre campus, one of the largest in North America. BSS offers students a myriad of opportunities to learn and grow in classes, co- and extra-curricular activities and in the community itself. The full range of courses is enriched with specialized programming which extends student options and experiences.
