CTV news correspondent visited Harry J. Clarke PS Destinations and Moira SS Film Studies students
Grade 7 students from theDestinations Programme at Harry J. Clarke are entering the production stages of a complete news program called 7D News. The one-hour television report consists of a series of hard hitting news reports reflecting on the students’ experience in the program this year.
The project is a collaboration between Mr. Davis’ Grade 7 class and students from the Film Studies course at Moira Secondary School. Throughout the project students from both schools worked together to generate a one-minute video segment on a selected topic which reflects an aspect of personal learning or character experience from the current school year.
Destinations students accessed video editing software and received extensive training from Mr. Doyle and his Grade 12 students. Assistance from the older students instilled a deeper understanding of the power of media with the younger students.
To further enhance their learning experience, Marcia MacMillan, CTV news correspondent, visited Moira Secondary School on Monday May 30, 2011. MacMillan shared a multi-media presentation with Moira Film Studies students and Destinations students which detailed her experiences and expertise in the development of news segments. Students were able to interact with her and ultimately gain insight into the many aspects and roles of media in our world.
The project will culminate with a Formal Screening Celebration in mid-June to unveil the 7D News “A Year in Review.” Parents and invited guests will share in the official unveiling to celebrate their academic achievements during the school year.
