Congratulations to Grace Conroy, a Grade 8 student at C.M.L. Snider School  who has been selected to serve as a Legislative Page at the Ontario Legislative Assembly. She will serve for five weeks in beginning at the end of March.

“It is an amazing opportunity,” said Conroy, who is excited to represent her school and community, and to learn about Ontario governmental procedure.
Conroy was selected following a rigorous application process which included writing an essay describing her relevant experience and why she wanted to be a Legislative Page. Support from her teacher, Pauline Jones, and principal, Vic Roy, was required. In his letter of support, Roy wrote: Grace lives and breathes current events at her family dinner table. She is a responsible, caring student who contributes to our school of character everyday. She is involved in community activities, is a member of the 4H club and she loves animals. She plays school sports and plays on the community girls’ hockey team.
Legislative Pages  are Grade 7 or 8 students who work in the Legislative Chamber of the Provincial Parliament in Toronto. They are granted a leave of absence from school during the time they serve. Academic achievement at 80% or higher is a requirement. Applicants must be actively involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities, both in and outside of school, show an interest in current affairs and get along well with both their peers and adults.
Pages participate in the legislative process, act as messengers in the Legislative Chamber, meet with politicians and officials, learn how laws are made and how the Province of Ontario is governed. The Program receives hundreds of applications for each round of selections. Positions for selected students are distributed between boys and girls who live throughout the 107 ridings represented in the Legislature. While at the Legislature, Pages are taught legislative process and receive various assignments to develop their language skills. They are also tutored in Mathematics.
C.M.L. Snider School offers a safe, supportive learning environment. Students have access to a wide variety of learning opportunities through the computer lab, music room, science room, athletic track and newly-updated library collection. “Supporting Learning and Community Values” is exemplified by the balance of academic programs with healthy active living and physical education, and community partnerships with the Kiwanis Club, local OPP and Prince Edward Child Care Services.
