Congratulations to Kathryn Lupton, a Grade 12 student from Centre Hastings Secondary School  for receiving an honourable mention in The Learning Partnership’s Turning Points Essay Contest.
The Learning Partnership received 8,865 essay entries for the Turning Points Essay Contest and Kathryn placed in the top nine of her grade. It is an exceptional achievement to place so high out of so many competitors.
Kathryn, along with her teacher, Ms. Primeau, attended the Student Success Awards Luncheon where Kathryn was awarded her honourable mention on May 26, 2010. Essay finalists and their parents, teachers, principals, trustees, directors of education and judges attended the Student Success Awards Luncheon at The Great Hall, Hart House, University of Toronto.
The Learning Partnership will be publishing all winning essays as a book, and Kathryn’s essay will be published along with the other winners.
“Cherish the Goldfish” is the name of Kathryn’s essay where she emotionally discusses the impact of losing her mother at the tender age of five. She used strong metaphors and emotional dialogue in her essay and provides a sense of hope in the midst of loss.
The Turning Points Essay Competition is open to all students in Grade 6 to 12 and The Learning Partnership recommends that the essays be marked as part of the Language/English program.
The Learning Partnership is a national not-for-profit organization that creates and runs programs in the public education system to make a difference in the lives of students.
